Again, changing the brakes on my truck???

i have a 04' f.150.... i am mechanically inclined... have all the tools i need... read 2 how to's online....but i want to change the rotors too...... what was that thing about pinching the lines or i will damage it?... most of you guys said its easy... how hard are the rotors?Again, changing the brakes on my truck???
Rotors are not hard at all. There are so many ways that rotors are attached depending on if it's 2 or 4 wheel drive. Best thing to do is to get a Haynes manual from Autozone or Advance Auto Parts...Costs 20 bucks and will help you out with more than just brakes. I get one for every car I buy.

The reason I suggested Haynes instead of alldata is because you buy it once, not once a year AND you can take it out to your car with you...Unless you want grease on your laptop. :)Again, changing the brakes on my truck???
I'm sorry, I was just adding a little to your suggestion since it was a good idea for him to get a manual.

But no, you can't take it with you. You can print the pages you want though :)

Again, changing the brakes on my truck???
Like the other poster said, best to get a %26quot;Haynes %26quot; manual.

I guess what they mean about pinching the lines is, you have to remove the calipers to get the rotor off the axle, do not let the caliper hang, it must be tied up out of the way so as not to pinch the flexible brake lines. No big deal and not hard.

The caliper must be rmoved to renew the pads anyway, and best to use new hardware when replacing pads and shoes.

Good luck, not hard.Again, changing the brakes on my truck???
Since the guy above already answered the question, I just thought I would mention something a little off subject..but not much.

If you are really into working on your own vehicle (s) you should look into using Alldata online. You get everything in the repair manuals, plus updated information, TSBs, specs, warnings, info, etc. It's much better than they Haynes or Chilton manuals, but does cost a little more too.

It's something like 25 bucks a year for one vehicle, and then a little less for each vehicle after that. But it has just about everything you need to do any repair to your vehicle.

Car Trouble! how to pick te right rotor?

I have a 2000 mercury cougar v6 2.5L. I took it to firestone and they said i need to change the rotors in the front and rear rotors pitted ans roasted, brake fluid flush...those were the notes he wrote .for my car and he said itll cost 862$!!! i was like wo ill see if i ca find it cheaper somewhere else. but cant i order the parts and pay som1 to do it myselfCar Trouble! how to pick te right rotor?
Cars are a constant money pit. You're either making payments or paying for repairs. You're 9 years from your car's production date, and if this is the first time you've replaced rotors, you're doing well.

If you don't have the money for rotors, ask if they're warped, or only scored. If they're only scored, you can either have them surfaced, or just slam in some brake pads knowing they'll wear prematurely (you'll get about half the life out of them). When I was a young man, I ran rotors regardless of how scored they were, I had better things to do with my non-union factory worker paycheck.

Having them resurfaced is best, but some rotors are only surface hardened, and the specs are so limited, they almost never can be resurfaced.

If you're going to do it yourself, find out before you take it apart if any special tools are required, or if there's anything peculiar about your particular car that you should know.

I don't currently own a car with disc brakes, and back when I did they were pretty straightforward, but my son in law just spend a small fortune on new calipers because he tried to push the pistons back in the usual way with a C-clamp, but there was a high-tech limiter because of the anti-lock brakes and unless the piston was turned before it was pushed, it damaged the mechanism. So be careful.

As far as changing the brake fluid, it depends on how long you intend to keep the car. Years ago I thought I was the only guy in the world who actually changed brake fluid every presidential election (once every 4 years). Brake fluid absorbs water out of the atmosphere, and over time, the wheel cylinders or calipers will begin to corrode from the inside out. Wheel cylinders leak before they seize, but calipers seize before they leak, which is probably why your mechanic advised you to change it out.Car Trouble! how to pick te right rotor?
wow, the rotors for that car are about 60-80 per, for that car, the rest is labor fee.Car Trouble! how to pick te right rotor?
That's sounds about twice the price I think.Car Trouble! how to pick te right rotor?
What was the original problem with your car that caused you to take it to a shop?

Try taking it to a Mercury dealer and see what they think needs fixing, and what they charge, and compare.

I don't trust those tire and brake shops. They tend to be dishonest.

Dealers with factory certification are more trustworthy. Try the Mercury web site to locate a dealer.Car Trouble! how to pick te right rotor?
you can buy the rotors for about 60 to 80 bucks pay 5 to 10 to have them re-surface and install your self if you know how .. as far as brake fluid flush that's just a waste .. i've own vehi for about 15 years never did a flush and never had a problem ..Car Trouble! how to pick te right rotor?
Yes,you can do it your self.Get another opinion from another mechanic before you spend any money.Car Trouble! how to pick te right rotor?
I agree to not let them to the work that is way too much for a simple brake job. I would find or ask someone you know that is a mechanic and have them help you do the brake job. as for the flush I would only change it if the fluid is dark brown or black. If you do need a flush it only takes about 15-20 minutes to flush the whole system.Car Trouble! how to pick te right rotor?
Your local parts store can hook you up with the correct parts. You will need to know if you car has anti-lock brakes, and what engine and trans it has. They can also sell you a repair manual for your specific car, which will help you to fix it yourself. You might also ask some friends or co-workers, if they know how to do it. You might get it done real cheap if a friend can do it. I would not waste money on the flush, unless there is metal shavings visible in the master cylinder.

Need Some car help (Brakes, rotor and serpentine belt) Please help?

Ok so i just got a 1998 Ford Escort from my grandma who passed away couple weeks back. So just to be safe i got it checked at Midas. They told me i had 2 get all my brakes pads, my front rotor and my serpentine belt changed. Im not really good with cars so please explain this to me. when they said get ur front rotor changed, what does that mean...both front tires...how many rotors does a car have..... And also does anyone know where i can get all these parts cheap. PLUS I DONT WAN TO SELL THIS CAR SO DONT SUGGEST THAT TO ME. thanksNeed Some car help (Brakes, rotor and serpentine belt) Please help?
You'll get a lot of opinions on cars, and mine from years of experience is not to go to the national chain store franchises like Midas, Goodyear, Firestone, and some others in large metropolitan areas. It's much better in my opinion to get to know some local independent shops you can find below that are recommended by your neighbors. The %26quot;gaurantees%26quot; you get at those chain stores and quickie lubes don't mean much. They end up charging you a lot anyways and less qualified mechanics are generally working on your car. The Ford dealer is a good place to get a diagnosis and quote for engine and transmission problems and let the independent shops do your brake, belts and hoses, exhaust, tires, and suspension work. When a car gets titled in your name at the motor vehicle department, it gets a safety check. If that safety check says your car is ok, then Midas is just trying to make money in my opinion rather than only fix what's needed to be fixed. Preventive maintenance like filter and fluid changes are specified in your owner's manual and are the most important thing for you to spend your money on.

http://www.iatn.net/shopfinder/Need Some car help (Brakes, rotor and serpentine belt) Please help?
The rotors are the brake rotors, and your car probably has four, one for each wheel/brake.

As the disc brake pads wear they also slowly wear away the rotors and will need to be replaced.

Serpentine belt is what drives your alternator, AC, power steering and stuff like that. That shouldn't cost you more than $10-$15 or so at an autoparts store. Don't know where you live, so it's hard to say where to get the parts cheapest, but most garages don't like you bringing in your own parts.

Only serious suggestions please...I have a ford explorer and my front rotors are rusted on, how do I get them off?
Wait until they rust off. Or torch them off.I have a ford explorer and my front rotors are rusted on, how do I get them off?
Spray penetrating oil (like WD-40) around the inside. Wait for awhile and then tap from behind with a mallet, or kick both sides from the front. You won't damage the spindle and if you scar or damage the rotors who cares, right?

If all else fails, use a wheel puller. You can rent one at a tool rental place for like $5.00.

    Good luck!

bang on it with a rubber mallet after you have removed the wheel. it will start to come off at an ange then start banging on the other side. I have a ford explorer and my front rotors are rusted on, how do I get them off?
tie off your loose brake callipers with wire or a hanger etc and then use a hammer tap it at back at top then bottom and keep tapping it all around the rotor it will end up coming loose.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way if you do spray them be sure you allow several hrs for the spray to work its way in and soak the whole centre of the rotor back and front but be sure all the new rotors and pads are away from the work area, also be sure if you change the rotors to change the pads and to clean the new rotors with brake cleaner before installing , plus clean any parts you may have touched when installing the new brakes.

Does anyone know any honest, reliable, inexpensive auto repair shops in the North Dallas area?

I have a Honda Accord and it just reached the 60,000 mile mark. I want to do a tune up that includes the works (i.e. changing plugs, rotor %26amp; cap, oil, fuel and air filter, also wheel alignment and inspection, etc..) does anyone know a good auto mechanic that can do this in the North Dallas area? Also, how much you think it would cost? Thanks.Does anyone know any honest, reliable, inexpensive auto repair shops in the North Dallas area?
I lived in the Dallas area for many years. For the most part the only mechanics were $78.00 per hour up. The best alignment shop was in Duncanville. I think it was Precision Alignment or Superior Alignment something like that. It was off Camp Wisdom and Main. The best general mechanics shop was a place recommended to me by American Armature. It may have been McGuire. It's near Haskell and I-30. They aren't cheap but as honest as the day is long and they know what they are doing. I ALMOST FORGOT CHRISTIAN BROTHERS only used them a few times but when they give you an estimate you can count on it coming in at or under the estimate. They were to put in a wheel bearing and because of rust an stuff wound up doing a whole lot more and it didn't cost me a dime over the initial estimate. It is the one on Eldorado in Mckinney that I went to but I was referred by a friend who used a different member of the company I would take my daughters car there if it needed work. Your Honda dealer SHOULD be a reliable source but you never know at least if they find anything wrong a warranted item they should fix it. Hope this helps.Does anyone know any honest, reliable, inexpensive auto repair shops in the North Dallas area?
    do it yourself. its easy.

    prop up car

    unplug oil plug

    let drain

unscrew oil filter, either buy a tool, or jab a screwdriver through it

dab oil on filter ring with finger

    screw in filter somewat tightly.

    put in oil pan plug

put a gallon of Valvoline oil. 10 40 oil. thinkcer oil is better. lubricates better. the hundreds of degries of engine heat will liquify it. use nothing but Valvoline nothing.

unplug one, only one plug and wire.

match up the length, screw in the plug by hand, be carfull dont tighten with wrench till its all the way in.

    air filter is easy.

Its a Dodge Dakota, 5 speed stick, 4wd. I just need to know how to take off the rotor.Need some help with 1996 Dodge Dakota ?
same way you would take all rotors off if it's a 4x4. if it's auto hubs pull the hub off there is a nut on the end of your front shaft it may require a special tool if not it will require a very large socket.

key thing, do it safe, jack stands.. note the place ment of all parts. usually there is a key on the spindle shaft. that need's pryed out if you have one it's best to be pulled out with a strong little magnet , after the nut there is a nylon disc, a greased set of berrings, then you can pull the rotor off. on the back side of the rotor there is a hub seal aka oil seal, and another set of berrings

you should not need to replact the race for the berrings but you should inspect the berring and repack new grease or replace them depending on general condition. a qiuck soak in kerosene will clean out the old grease. the rear oil seal needs replaced every time you take this apart so do it all right while it's apart.

if you have ne questions while it's apart snap a pic and send it to me i'll be willing to help u out more.Need some help with 1996 Dodge Dakota ?
You don't need to remove the hub to change the brake rotors. In fact, don't even touch the hub.

Remove the wheel, remove the caliper, and the brake rotor should come off. You may have to whack it with a good sized hammer to knock it loose.

Need some help with 1996 Dodge Dakota ?
Some have a slip off rotor that will come off once the wheel and caliper are removed. Others have a 4 bolt flange that allows the bering/hub and rotor to come off as an assembly. Look behind the rotor/hub at the drive axel connection for the bolts. You may have to clear out some road grime to see them.

Timing belt change-how to find in 1990 bmw?

    Hello all,

I have a 1990 BMW 525 which i bought from a second hand car dealer and he told that he had changed the timing belt. This year I am going to do a service on my car..like changing the distributor rotor, sparkplug change, oil change etc.My dealer told that he had changed the timing belt, but how do i confirm that that he had changed.Any way to find out that....

thanks in advance,Timing belt change-how to find in 1990 bmw?
The only way to tell is to look out for telltale signs of recent activity in the timing belt area (cleaner bolts and screws compared to the others in the engine...etc). Another way is to visiually inspect the belt itself for cracks, but if you could get to that stage, you might as well just replace the belt anyway since there's already a lot of labor involved.

Haynes repair manuals recommend 40,000 miles while Bentley repair manuals recommend 60,000 miles.

Instructions on how to change out the timing belt...

    http://www.bmwe30.net/cgi-bin/datacgi/da

    http://www.bmwe34.net/E34main/Maintenanc

Either way, you should never delay changing it out because you have an interference motor, which could cause bent valves, cams and rocker arms when the belt becomes loose or if it snaps.Timing belt change-how to find in 1990 bmw?
Any dealer will do a free inspection, if your dealer has already said he has swapped it out, you can take his word for it or not,

Keep in mind for your car BMW recommends the belt swapped out at 60,000-70,000 so if you have 85,999 miles on your car you can be assured that you have another 30,000 miles left to go.

As evidence, your belt would have broken already from being dry-rotted or your belt would have some serious cracks in it.Timing belt change-how to find in 1990 bmw?
As with all belts, you can check them visually or you can take it to an Auto parts store that offers free inspections of your belts for a better opinionTiming belt change-how to find in 1990 bmw?
While timing belts have a recommended life other things can lead to failure. Over heat, oil leaks, coolant leaks can shorten the life. To check the belt you need to look at it. Does it show wear? Cracks or discoloration? Did the dealer tell at what millage the belt was changed, and did they replace the cam and crank seals %26amp; water pump?Timing belt change-how to find in 1990 bmw?
Cannot. Even tearing out the timing belt cover (which takes about 2 - 3 hours of labor) and belt is visible, there is no way to tell unless your belt is ready to snap. However, if the BMW dealer said the car was serviced, you can trust because all BMW dealer work is required to be logged into a database.

  • Chevy Impala Front Brake Replacement?

me and my dad are going to fix our impala, but we dont know how to change the front brakes. can you help please?

also, if you know how to change the rotors, please tell me.

    thanks.Chevy Impala Front Brake Replacement?
take off the lid on the master cylinder, use a c-clamp to turn the calipers in, take out 2 long bolts ( probably a T-50 star socket ), pull the caliper off and then the rotor. if it,s a rear wheel drive you have to take the dust cap off the bearing, take off the bearing nut and bearing and off the rotor comes. make sure you clean the new rotors off with brake cleaner before you install them.Chevy Impala Front Brake Replacement?
The rotors don't need to come off to change the disc brake pads.Remove master cylinder cover. remove calipers, remove old pads. Install new pads, open up the space between them using a C clamp and reinstall calipers.

Brake Rotor replace, turn, or leave alone?

I am in the process of changing the brakes on my sisters car. I have experience doing this but I was wondering how do you know what to do with the rotors? I personally always change my rotors when changing the pads, but my sister only has enough money for the pads. I would buy them for her but I cannot afford it either.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Brake Rotor replace, turn, or leave alone?
New pads will bed onto used rotors but only fully after a few hundred miles but the combination should be able to pass a rolling road brake efficiency test immediately, they just won't be %26quot;as good as new%26quot;. Done a fair bit of research into this as I had an argument with a mate who said new rotors weren't really necessary whereas I claimed they were.Brake Rotor replace, turn, or leave alone?
feel the rotors with your hands . if you feel grooves in the rotors, they should be replaced if not, they are good.Brake Rotor replace, turn, or leave alone?
I change my rotors when they warp. On the MR2, this is just about every time the pads give up.

On my camry, I change the rotors when they warp, which is about every third time I change the brake pads. Actually on my camry, I just press the brakes harder and it shuts them up.

If the rotors aren't warped, don't bother changing them.

Consider buying a boat. Not only will it give you an excuse to wear a fashionable ascot, but boat have no wheels, ergo, no rotors.Brake Rotor replace, turn, or leave alone?
If the rotors aren't severely rusted or scored up and the brakes didn't vibrate, you should be OK with just replacing the pads.Brake Rotor replace, turn, or leave alone?
You may be wasting money on rotors. unless they are warped, or grooved or worn where the pads hit beyond minimum thickness you can just put on new pads. Also, all rotors are not the same, the cheap chinese ones are only good for selling your car, US versions last a LOT longer and won't warp much.Brake Rotor replace, turn, or leave alone?
If the rotors are smooth and shiny they do not need replacing.

Minor grooving gets worse the deeper it goes.

2000 Grand Am Brake Issues Spongy?!?

I recently had the front rotors and pads on a 2000 Grand am SE. when I went to pump the brakes with the car off, the pedal became firm, then when I turned the car on, the pedal became spongy and unresponsive. Took it back to the mechanic a few days later, they said they would bleed the brakes, yet the pedal is still spongy, Master cylinder is fine, worked perfectly before the pads/rotors change. Could this be perhaps that they did not do a full system brake bleed?? PLEASE help, winter is coming and i want to have good brakes for the snow!! I heard maybe the brake pads just need to be worn in, if this is true, how long will it take for my brakes to go back to normal? Also wondering how much it could cost if i take it to someone to bleed the entire system and do nothing else? thanks2000 Grand Am Brake Issues Spongy?!?
Wow, I'm seeing some really incorrect information in the answers to this question.

The brake hydraulics are separate from the brake friction materials. The hydraulics must never have any type of air introduced into their system or a spongy or poor pedal, if any at all, may result. However, the only required disturbance to the hydraulic system when replacing pads is to retract the pistons back into the caliper to allow for the thickness of the new brake pads. This does not require opening the bleeder valve or disconnecting any hydraulics at all. So, stating that the system must be bled when replacing pads is incorrect. The only reason for it to be bled is because the system was opened and may have possibly allowed air to enter. So, if the shop removed the caliper from the brake hose or opened the bleeder valve, then they should be bled. Otherwise, it is not a requirement.

Next we go to the power booster. The booster uses engine vacuum to give an easier pedal to push. If the booster is bad, or if the vacuum line to it from the engine is bad or has a problem, it will definitely not give you a spongy pedal, it will give a very stiff and hard pedal, just like you felt when you push the pedal down a couple of times with the engine off. You lose the assist, therefore resulting in a hard pedal, not a spongy pedal.

New brakes may often feel different from the ones replaced. Correctly stated by Thomas E., the new pads need to %26quot;burnish%26quot; or seat themselves to the rotors. Once this has happened, the feel of the pedal normally improves. While the new pads and rotors are mating their surfaces, you must push the brake pedal harder to achieve the same friction on the parts as you use to, and the pedal feels spongier. I do disagree that the extra 10mm gives springiness or sponginess. Pads are very hard and do not %26quot;give%26quot; or compress at all.

Another thing to look at is the adjustment of the rear drum brake shoes. Although they may not have been touched by this shop, the combination of the rear brakes being out of adjustment and the new friction parts still breaking in may be giving you the sponginess you are feeling. When the shoes are out of adjustment, the brake pedal must move further to engage the rear brake shoes based off the combination valve regulating pressure to the front brakes before the rear brakes are engaged.

I have found success on the midsize GM vehicles with 4wheel ABS by cycling the ABS pump valves and solenoids and using the proper full system bleed procedure, not just a quick bleed at the wheels. Cycling the solenoids and valves requires a scanner capable of accessing and performing these functions. The dealer and a quality repair shop will have this scanner, but expect to pay $100 or so for this complete system bleeding service due to the complexity and tools required.

I didnt want to confuse you before when talking about opening the hydraulic system when doing a brake job. Although it is not necessary or required to do this or bleed the system when done, it is highly recommended to incorporate a specific method for retracting the pistons into the calipers that requires opening the bleeder valve on the caliper as the pistons are retracted. This allows the old dirty brake fluid to exit the system instead of being forced back up the lines against any check valves or where moisture in the fluid can corrode expensive ABS components. Since you should change your brake fluid every couple years anyway, this would be any ideal time to do this. Read the article at diynetwork, it shows pictures and states my opinion eloquently.

A good mechanic may still have to go through a full inspection and various types of bleeding operations including using the scan tool to try to correct this issue. It should not be boiled down to thinking a technician is poor if it takes him more than a half hour to do this. Especially if he did the brake job by the books and is now trying to hunt down what the heck happened and why you are unsatisfied.

By the way, have you heard of ASE Certification? An ASE certified Brake Technician is tested on situations like this and would know that a bad line to the booster would give a hard pedal, not a soft pedal, and would also be tested on knowing that some vehicles may have to have their pumps cycled. Find out if your shop is using an ASE certified brake technician. Experience doesnt count if it is bad experience.2000 Grand Am Brake Issues Spongy?!?
If pads and rotors were all that was done on the front then there's no need to bleed the system, if they took calipers off then a bleed would be needed. I'd take it back to them and advise they diagnose the system correctly.2000 Grand Am Brake Issues Spongy?!?
Bring it back to the same shop since they're the ones that did the job. They may hook you up for free since you're unhappy with their service. You don't need to bleed out the entire system though, just bleed out any air that may be trapped. Most of the time, a correctly done brake job needs no bleeding at all, if only doing the rotors and pads.2000 Grand Am Brake Issues Spongy?!?
When you pump the brakes %26quot;with the car off%26quot; all the vacuum power assist is used up after about 3 pumps. that is why the pedal got hard because there is no more power assist. it is normal for new brakes to feel more flexible than worn out brakes. you have an extra 10 mm of pad material that will compress some. also the pads may not be bedded to the discs yet adding a little more springiness to the system. most disc and pad changes won't even require bleeding the brakes. if no air is introduced into the system there should be no reason to bleed the brakes. Usually (?) the mechanic should just suck some fluid out of the reservoir and then pry back the pistons which pushes fluid back into the master cylinder reservoir. you don't say if it STOPS ok. if it stops ok - drive it several 100 miles and i think the pedal will start to feel firmer.2000 Grand Am Brake Issues Spongy?!?
When I replace brake pads I pop the top of the reservoir beforehand, and after the new pads are on, I bleed the brakes ALWAYS. It is indeed necessary to bleed the brakes after changing brake pads.

I think there are two possibilities. The first is that the power brake booster is bad (most likely)... that's the thing on the firewall that looks like two serving bowls put lip-to-lip, or less likely the brake system still needs bleeding.

The brake booster uses vacuum from the engine to operate. If the vacuum line to the booster is leaking or the booster developed a leak, then you will certainly notice the exact symptoms you mentioned.

ALSO DO NOT take the car back to those bozos. A REAL mechanic should be able to spot that problem in 30 seconds.

Firstly you can go on the internet and look for step by step instructions on how to fix more difficult projects. Look for videos, pics, documents, ect. There are schools you can search for known as trade schools where they teach you about automobile repairs. It's not going to be a %26quot;quick run-through%26quot; but it will be worth it if you dont want to get ripped off anymore.Mechanic ripped me off! • Why is my 2002 Ford Escort ZX2 doing this?

I've got about 70k miles on it. I recently had the rotors changed and am getting the timing belt changed tomorrow due to 1 rib of the belt breaking off (which, btw, it has still allowed me to drive 600 miles in 1 week since breaking because the rest is still intact) I've noticed that upon acceleration from a stop that no matter how hard or soft I press on the gas, my E-brake light will come on for just a few seconds. It started after the rotor change (a long while after) and before the timing belt broke, but before, it would only do it sometimes. Since the timing belt incident, it does it on every from-stop acceleration, and even occasionally as I am turning a corner. Could it be because of the timing belt, or is it something different? I do my own routine maintenance such as oil changes, fluid changes and other minor things, but, this car was bought used and I have added over 30k miles in 8 months. Any other suggestions on keeping my manual-tranny girl running smoothly? Why is my 2002 Ford Escort ZX2 doing this?
do not need to replace the pulleys. never heard of doing that, even on a second or third Timing belt. unless there was some type of problem with them. At 70k, that is about the right time for a timing belt. The Brake light is usually both for the E-brake and for the Brakes in general. It sounds like what you may have is low fluid in the master cylinder, and on turns and acell the remaining fluid is moving to uncover the contacts. check your brake fluid level, it should be at the full mark on the side of the M/C (outside molded into the plastic if the resivour). Just change the belt, unless the Mech can show you as to why it needs new sprockets.

How to change rear brake pads and rotors in a 99 Olds Intrigue?

mainly the rotors, the pads should be easy...How to change rear brake pads and rotors in a 99 Olds Intrigue?
Rotors are hard to take off. They have something similar to a bolt on them that holds them in place. Sometimes they can get stuck. id suggest getting a strong man to help you

Is there a site that will tell me how to change my brakes and rotors?I have a 96 Mazda 626 and no manual.?

Brakes and Rotors are almost all the same on all vehicles. They are pretty easy to remove, but putting back together takes alittle more work.Is there a site that will tell me how to change my brakes and rotors?I have a 96 Mazda 626 and no manual.?
If you create an account at Auto-zone, you should be able to see the on-line repair manuals.

I want to upgrade my hidraulic brakes from 6" to 8"?

What do I need to modify? I just want to change the rotors, do I need to change the calipers also? how can I do this?

thanksI want to upgrade my hidraulic brakes from 6%26quot; to 8%26quot;?
If its the front check your fork to see if its post mount like on most new Rock Shox or IS- international standard. Once that is established, buy the Front 203 mm adaptor. Also make sure your fork can handle the larger rotor. Make sure you have the right rotor like Center Lock or standard six bolt for your hub and wheel

Its pretty much the same for the rears too. Just make sure you get the right adapter for the rear. I messed up once by not paying attention to which adaptor and wasted like $30.

One last thing. Different rotors are different thicknesses. I think Magura brakes are thinner then most- I think. I'm not sure how much of a difference it all really makes but I try to buy a rotor from that brake company.

I hope this helped a little.

My rear brake pads doesn't have any wear, why?

From the brake upgrade that I did from last year I notice that my rear brake pads haven't worn at all. My fronts were worn down to the point that I have to change the rotors, but something must be wrong here. How could the fronts wear down so much with the rears not even being touched?

I do notice, however, that the pads only seem to be making contact with certain parts of the rotors. My rear brake pads doesn%26039;t have any wear, why?
Any time you do brakes on a car, it is easier and safer to change the calipers as well as the brake pads. More than likely the rear caliper piston is not extending as far as needed. My rear brake pads doesn%26039;t have any wear, why?
When %26quot;you%26quot; replaced your brake pads last year, you probably bled the system incorrectly or somehow caused the %26quot;transfer valve/isolation valve%26quot; to shift, eliminating the rear brakes entirely. The light bulb may be burnt out, but the brake light on the dash should be lit continuously if that happened.

If you have full ABS brakes, there could be sensor or command function problems isolating your rear brakes. My rear brake pads doesn%26039;t have any wear, why?
If they are drum brakes they need to be adjusted, if they are rotors the piston may be frozen and you will need to replace it. I have seen cases wgere the piston was not brought straight back and now it won't move, hard tyo tell not being able to see what is going on.My rear brake pads doesn%26039;t have any wear, why?

cmon man, you ned to know how to do these things and save that $. My brake pads usually run about $20.00 and I put them on myself, you need to have someone show you how to do it and then you practice it til you get it. The rotors usually are $10.00 a piece to turn. You'll save plenty of dough if you do it yourself. Go to the parts store and ask some of the mechanics that come out the store they may be willing to do it for you 4 a cheap price. How to do brake repair for ford 1992 f150?

I'd like to find a site or get some help. i'd like to change the rotors and pads myself on my ford 1992 f150 but the manual lockouts for the fourwheel drive are in the way and I dont want to mess them up. HELP PleaseHow to do brake repair for ford 1992 f150?
This is a tough question - F-150's had two hub styles, and for some dumb reason, the brakes are totally different. Here's what we need to know:

Do you have Ford manual hubs with no screws around the perimeter (oddball), or do you have aftermarket manual hubs with screws around the perimeter, that look like they'd also fit a Jeep or a Chevrolet.

Either way, you could probably find both answers in a half-decent manual.

I have a 2001 Impala how hard is it to change the brake pads and rotors out?

I am a mechanically inclined person with not much auto experience. It just costs so much to have a shop put on new rotors and most of the time they hose you on the parts.I have a 2001 Impala how hard is it to change the brake pads and rotors out?
Disc brake pads are easy. Once the caliper has been removed, the rotor should slip right off the studs, although there is probably a retaining clip you'll need to remove if they're never been off before. It would be worth your while to go to Autozone and pickup the Haynes manual for a 2001 Impala ($15-$16).I have a 2001 Impala how hard is it to change the brake pads and rotors out?
changing the rotors and brake pads is pretty easy, you may have to remove some long bolts going through the caliper, or use a hammer and punch to drive out a bracket holding the caliper together. most have bolts holding the caliper together. but one thing to remember is when you push the piston back into the caliper, be sure to crack open the bleeder screw so that you do not force brake fluid back up through the abs(if it has abs) or up back in to the master cylinder which could flip the seal on it causing it to leak. also a good habit would be to use a c-clamp to push back the piston, but use one of the old brake pads against the piston so that it doesn't damage it. as for the rotors, they should just slip off, unless there is a retaining clip that u would have to remove, but it easily comes off in most cases.oh and be extremely sure to tighten the bleeder screw back up or else you will get air in your lines causing u to have a spongy brake pedal and causing you to have to bleed your brakes.just don't over tighten them. if the bleeder screw begins to strip, do not continue to unscrew it as it may snap. if it snaps or strips you may need a new caliper unfortunately. hope this helpsI have a 2001 Impala how hard is it to change the brake pads and rotors out?
there are two bolts that hold the caliper on two the mounting bracket. I think they are 14mm. you'll probably have to retract the piston in the caliper to get the pads to clear the rust ridge on the rotor. Use a big C-clamp around the caliper and push on the back of the outboard pad. After you take off the caliper, you can use the c-clamp and the inboard pad to retract the piston all the way. There are two bolts that hold the caliper mounting bracket on to the knuckle. I forget the sizes of the bolts. Actually, I think that the caliper bolts may be 12mm and the mounting bracket bolts may be 14mm. You'll have to remove the bracket if you are replacing the rotors. But, unless you have a brake pulsation, excessive scoring or pitting, you shouldn't have to replace the rotors or have them resurfaced. In fact, gm doesn't recommend resurfacing the rotors for just replacing the pads. Only for the reasons I just mentioned. Overall, it's a pretty simple job. Quite self explanatory.

I have a 1999 F250 SUPER Duty, V10, 4X4 and a brake rotor problem. How thick are the new rotors supposed to B?

When I changed the new rotors I compressed the pads and now the caliper is rubbing the new rotor. Do I have to get the new rotor turned before install? 1. You always machine new rotors because 90 percent of the time they will be slightly warped........never believe what the box states on it.

    2. The front rotors should be 1.5 inch or 38.1 mm's.

    3. All Ford's will sooner or later need calipers because of the material they use.

    4. The rubbing might be that the calipers are stuck........

It's seized up on the wheel hub. Spray it liberally with PB or WD, Beat it with a rubber hammer or a steel hammer gently.

Have you removed the brake caliper? Sometimes you have to take a torch and heat the mating area of the rotor and the stud holes before it breaks loose. Try it, you may be successful. How do i change the rotor!?
all you should have to do is take off the tire, remove the caliper, and the rotor comes right off. They do tend to stick pretty bad so you might have to use some force. i wouldn't beat on them though unless you plan to replace them. How do i change the rotor!?
Well first take the caliper off. Then soak the rotor in WD40 and then try hitting it with a mallet in a circular pattern. Check to see if there is threaded holes in the rotor if there is get bolts that fit and tighten them in there the will press up against the hub and pull the rotor away at the same time, this almost always works. If all else fails a torch and a bigger hammer.

Start by putting anti- squeak product on back of brake pads. lift up car, take tire off, preferrably use a jack stand to stabilize vehicle, take bolts that hold the caliper out, use hammer to tap caliper up to get it off rotor. (Handle caliper gently to prevent damaging flexible brake line) take pads out, use big C clamp to compress piston back into caliper as far as it goes..put brake pads in, set aside gently... slide rotor off, clean up new one with brake cleaner to get all oil off of it, slide new rotor on, clean up brake linings (area that contacts rotor) with brake cleaner. Slide caliper back on and bolt up. put wheel on... do the other side the same way... If you get a small amount of brake fliud spilling out of master cylinder (area you fill brake fliud) don't be alarmed now there is too much... start engine, VERY IMPORTANT- pump brake pedal until you have a firm pedal before putting in gear or there will be a delay that you don't have brakes! then make sure you have no leaks as it is not uncommon for a old rubber line to leak if it has been stressed....

How often should you change your spark plugs?

I have a '98 Mazda Protege LX 1.5L 4 cylinder with just over 111,000 miles. I was wondering how often you need to change the spark plugs. Also, I heard people say they changed the wires, rotor and cap. Do you need to do that too?How often should you change your spark plugs?
The normal rule of thumb is to change the plugs and wires every 100,000 miles. As far as the rotor...if your car has that because most vehicles nowadays are all electronic...I wouldn't replace that until you start having issues with it.How often should you change your spark plugs?
Forget about replacing wires, The factory wires should last for the lifetime of the car, unless they have been eaten by squirrels. Power wash your engine for starters. Remove your dist cap and check it INSIDE for the presence of engine oil. Many times, oil under pressure will find it's way here. Wash it out with CRC electronic cleaner. It will remove the oil and evaporate quickly. Replace the cap and rotor at 100,000 miles, using ONLY genuine Mazda (nippondenso) parts. There is a resistor in many dist rotors that go bad with age. Locate, remove and clean your IAC valve (idle air control valve). Use Gum-out spray. Clean the throttle body and plate and PCV valve, too. Run the Gum-out through the engine with car running, warm. Any carbon inside the intake manifold will dislodge and get dispelled. When everything is factory clean, replace the plugs. Use the new Nippondenso Twin Tip plugs ($3 each). Or nippondenso Iridium plugs ($9 each). Engine and sensors should ALL be clean. Plugs are last step. These plugs will give you best power and fuel mileage. Wait and see!!!! If you MUST change the wires, use ONLY factory wires. Never short change the original parts. They were made to last longest and work the best. The plugs I have mentioned will react with modern fuel and burn more cleanly and produce more power. Emissions go down, too. For even better performance, motor flush the engine and use ELF oil (France) made for Mazda (JASO ratings). Change it once yearly. Your engine will LOVE you for it!!!! So will your lifters, rings, and other engine vitals. Good luck!!How often should you change your spark plugs?
Read your owners manual. Your car probably needs plugs at 60,000 miles or so, if your car runs on an ignition cap and wires, then yes, replace plugs, INSPECT wires for damage, check your points in the cap for wear (if dull, replace, if they have a sharp edge still, probably ok). If you car has electronic ignition, the plugs probably could go longer. My fathers ford F-250 has electronic ignition, so the plugs need replaced at 100,000 miles... factory stated. How often should you change your spark plugs?
you should change it like every 3 1/2 year

How do you change out a rotor on a 1980 Jaguar XJ6?

I have a 1980 XJ6 Jaguar that the rotor is rotten (from time is suppose) how do I change it out? Would I have to drop the axle? Serious answers pleaseHow do you change out a rotor on a 1980 Jaguar XJ6?
It's not out of the question. If they are in-board and rusted to oblivion, then it will be an easier job to just take out the whole rear-end. Then you can work on it at a work bench. You have to disconnect the axles anyway, it's only a few more bolts and a heavy chunk. It will still not be close to an easy job though. I've seen the inboard rotor bolts break more, than come out in one piece. Soak it with penetrating oil and pray. How do you change out a rotor on a 1980 Jaguar XJ6?
You need to be more specific about your problem. %26quot;Rotor%26quot; can mean a lot of different things. Where is it on your car? In the distributor, brakes, drive shaft, transmission, alternator, starter motor, fuel pump, oil pump, power steering, torque converter, etc.How do you change out a rotor on a 1980 Jaguar XJ6?
I assume we're talking about the rear inboard brakes. The rotors can in theory be serviced in place. You would need to unbolt the half shaft, and remove rotor and caliper together. You will probably need to undo the exhaust to get proper access. When you replace them, try to find Brembo rotors, which have extra holes in the hub which allow you to unbolt the differential stub axle retainer. This allows you to pull the rotors with the stub axle. It might sound harder, but it's easier to get the rotor out and in when everything is mobile.

My feeling is that the most satisfying way to do this is to pull the whole rear axle, and use the opportunity to refresh the control arm bearings, shocks, half shaft joints, as well as the brakes.New seals for the diff, and hub bearings if you're ambitions. It's a fairly simple thing to do, although you need a transmission jack to deal with the weight (about 300+ lbs). The parts are cheap. Undo the exhaust, hand brake cable, brake hose, and trailing arms. Slide your jack underneath and take the weight off the mounts. Then unbolt them. You'll probably have to replace the trailing arm bushings, as they are usually impossible to budge (without damage) after many years of service.

Axle removal should be done with a stout set of jackstands supporting the rear of the body, and the front wheels on the floor. Don't ever try to remove the axle on a lift, as the car will become very nose heavy when the axle drops.

How damaged is my car, it fell off the jack with one wheel off?

My friend jacked up my car, took off the front passenger wheel to change my rotors. The car slipped off the jack and landed on the rotor. Is there additional damage/stress to any other part to my car? The rotor got damaged but they were already being thrown out anyway. I'm going to get it checked out by the Honda dealer but I want to know what to expect. I drive a 2007 Honda Accord, 4 cylinder. How damaged is my car, it fell off the jack with one wheel off?

I doubt there would be any other damage , but get it checked out if you`re at all concerned ...............How damaged is my car, it fell off the jack with one wheel off?
you may have tweaked some suspension stuff but that is all i can foresee. ball joints, tie rods, etc. but i highly doubt it. but new cars have a lot of electrical stuff going to brakes and suspension. abs sensor being one. the car is a 07 and needs brakes. there is a major issue there. brakes should last longer than that.

but the better question is why in the hell were you working on a car on only a jack. they make these things i am not sure if you have heard of them called jack stands. be thankful you were not under it when it fell. How damaged is my car, it fell off the jack with one wheel off?
Your friend is a moron. That's why they make jack stands. Never support a car on just a jack. Your friend is lucky it didn't land on him and cause a fatal injury.

Now to answer your question: The hub bearing, control arm, spindle, CV axel, ball joint, tie rods, and strut all could have been damaged. This is worst case scenario. If you are lucky, only the that old rotor got damaged. How damaged is my car, it fell off the jack with one wheel off?
Unless the jack whacked the side of the car or something similar happened - landing on the rotor at worst might have bent the dust shield or the air deflector under the front bumper. How damaged is my car, it fell off the jack with one wheel off?
There isn't any damage done to the rest of the car. Don't bother wasting your time or money at the dealership. Your car has struts to absorb impact and that's what ensured any other parts of your car from being damaged. How damaged is my car, it fell off the jack with one wheel off?

hmmm i would say if ur lucky just the rotor if not maybe some steering compents or and tie rod ends or suspension(spring/ strut) depends where it landedHow damaged is my car, it fell off the jack with one wheel off?
as long as nothing is leaking or when u drive on it it dont wobble or anything like that you should be good to go. hope that helpsHow damaged is my car, it fell off the jack with one wheel off?
It is a more common accident than you might think! I have never heard of more than damaged rotor and bent back plate as a result, even when the wheel came off on the road. I doubt it does the bearings any good, but they don't seem to mind.

Your money would be best spent on a car less than 18 years old. That said everything is different from the master Cly to the rear parking brake cables and hydraulic hoses and tubing.. It could get costly quickly. I know only anti lock brake sentra had disks rear the 1994 year model. You could get used parts out of a autorecyclers yard. They don't like being called junk yards. I have never seen a rear wheel drive sentra conversion. If you want a 350Z get one it would be cheaper and performance parts will be available. Good LuckHow do you change rear drum brakes to disk on a Nissan Sentra?
I have to totally agree with John Paul...These are some ambitious and potentially expensive mods for that old car. As much as I like Nissan and agree they can run and run you gotta worry if or when the rust will start.... The biggest killer of these cars is not mechanical but body cancer....I would drive it the way it is and save your money...If your heart is set on the rear wheel drive consider a Z car--if you like the Sentra a R or Spec V are what is in your future.

    Brake change 2006 Jetta?

Does anyone know how to change the breaks on a 06 Jetta. I have changed breaks bofore but not on a foreign car. Are there any tips or tricks I should know? Also everyone says change the rotors with the pads but that will cost too much right now. I just want to change the pads until I have more cash.

    Thank youBrake change 2006 Jetta?
cant say for sure, but a jetta's brakes shouldnt be any different than any other car, remove caliper, compress piston, remove old pads, clean everything with brake parts cleaner, install new pads, reinstall calipers, then dont overheat the new pads for a day or so. I think VW is a normal setup, just VW uses torx bolts if im correct

  • How much do front brake pads & rotors cost on a 2000 Toyota Camry LE.?

    Hello,

Yesterday my car started grinding when I was braking... I knew my pads were low and I drove on it for about a day. The grinding got worse as I knew there was no pad left and it was now metal on metal. I took my car into Speedy Auto and got it checked out. They showed me bare brake pads and grooves in my rotors from the grinding. They said the rotors had hot spots on them and wouldn't be able to be machined.... that they would have to change the rotors altogether. So I went ahead with the procedure and the bill turned out to be $341.00 for front brake pads and rotors. Is this a normal price for a procedure like this? Or did I get ripped off a bit here?

    Thanks for your time,

MitchHow much do front brake pads %26amp; rotors cost on a 2000 Toyota Camry LE.?
That is a fair price. Could you have gotten it done at some hillbilly shop cheaper, of course. Speedy is national chain shop and you got a good warranty. How much do front brake pads %26amp; rotors cost on a 2000 Toyota Camry LE.?
That is a fairly reasonable price. Depending on where in the country you are, and how good of quality parts they used. A repair like that on a Toyota should be between $275-400 depending on the parts used. Your right in the middle, so not bad. At the dealer we get around $425 for Toyota original parts. They most likely used aftermarket parts thus the discount. Doesn't mean the parts are any less quality though as some aftermarket brakes are better then the factory ones. How much do front brake pads %26amp; rotors cost on a 2000 Toyota Camry LE.?
they got you a little bit on this one, normal cost on doing that one should have been around 250 bucks total, but you paid their cost on the mark up for the parts also so that's about right for a shop, they mark the parts up ,but it could have been done a lot cheaper than this, considering replacing everything was lot easier of a job, good luck. How much do front brake pads %26amp; rotors cost on a 2000 Toyota Camry LE.?
over half the cost was labor, parts probably didn't cost them much over $120.How much do front brake pads %26amp; rotors cost on a 2000 Toyota Camry LE.?
yes id have to agree, you got the typical markup for getting it done at a shop they usually can double the price for parts at the minimum. when doing my own Camry i get large box sets of pads that would work out to be 15-20 dollars to put pads on the front tires. but just buying them for two wheels can be 25-40 depending on name brand or just like the general Napa brand which is fine. the rotors range from 40-60 for each all purpose rotor. that's why its a good idea to change or at least check the brakes when they start to squeal. that's the wear bar rubbing on the rotor to let you know. you normally don't want to let the pads get any more worn down than having 1/16th inch left of pad. they are very simple to change just get a manual online for ten bucks. takes about 15 min a wheel and save you hundreds of dollars.

How much do Audi brake pads cost and rotors?

I have a 2006 Audi A4 quattro. I took the car to the dealership and they want me to change the rotors, as well. I only have 27000 miles on the car. Do the rotors have to be changed. The dealer does not resurface the rotors so they would rather change them out altogether. The dealer wants $760 for front brakes, front rotors, and changing the rear pads only. Is that too much, and should I get an estimate from a private shop, like firestone? How much do Audi brake pads cost and rotors?
Call your local autoparts store like Advance,AutoZone, etc.

Get prices %26amp; do it yourself.Or better yet if you don't want to do

that call around other garages get pricing, also not changing rear rotors when changing pads is not very smart. How much do Audi brake pads cost and rotors?
On my 1998 Audi A6 Quattro my front brake pads alone cost about $400, the price they gave you is not to be unexpected when it comes to driving an AudiHow much do Audi brake pads cost and rotors?
I think you're being had. Audi's were designed to have repeated safe stops at Autobahn speeds. In this country, where excessive speed is unlawful, European brake systems usually last twice as long. Front brakes usually 50-60,000 miles; rear brakes, 90-100,000 miles. Never use anything but genuine Audi parts in your brake system(don't go to Firestone and use aftermarket anything parts) The only exception are the brake pads made in Australia that leave no brake dust. Have your dealership prove to you that you have premature wear in your brake system, it should still be under warranty. Have your brake system examined at a brake shop for a second opinion, but don't let them bastardize your fine car with non OEM parts, you'll be sorry in the long run. If your brakes are wearing this soon, are you a %26quot;two-foot%26quot; driver??This will eventually cause premature wear in any car.Good Luck! How much do Audi brake pads cost and rotors?
use only audi OEM parts. plus you need a special tool on the rears. the price sounds correct but make sure they check the front rotors again and ask them if they are in spec. i dont think they would be bad after 27,000 miles so make sure they measure it and tell you.

Question about break rotors and pads - Part 2?

First, I want to thank everyone for their answers to my first question. I have a '99 Audi A4, 2.8L V6. I need to change my rotors and break pads. I have found great rotors online - slotted drilled rotors, 4 for $240 with free S%26amp;H, is that a reasonable price range? As for break pads, there is a very wide price range - from $30 to $200 and more for a set of four pads. How do I know which ones to purchase and which ones are best for my car adn my needs? I don't plan on driving my car at a NASCAR or Formula 1 race. I want reliable, good and reasonably affordable pads that will do a great job without the excessive and unnecessary bells and whistles as all that costs too much extra. So please advise how do I chose what break pads to buy and what is a reasonable price range. Do I need ceramic ones? (my car has semi-metallic pads on it right now). And would you be able to tell me how much approximately it would cost changing all rotors and pads? Thanks fellas!Question about break rotors and pads - Part 2?
It looks like you've made up your mind about the slotted rotors.......even if you really don't need them. I would go with ceramic pads because they are cleaner and don't give off a lot of brake dust. Cost would be price of the parts and about 2-3 hrs of labor. Your labor is cheaper, someone else's labor at their shop will be more expensive.Question about break rotors and pads - Part 2?
you can get brake pads for as little as 25 bucks that Will work just fine but your upgrading your rotors so why not the the pads right.. and have you check with any parts store about the same things you want or need you never know til you do...... ive drove all my car hard and ive never seen the need to up grade at all so what came with the car is what the designers throught was best and if your not racing why would you need it .. but it really up to you and your pockets better rotors do need better pads mayb enot the best but id sure get better than the cheap ones

How much should it cost on a 2002 Toyota Camry LE (4c/2.4L) to get both sets of brakes & front rotors changed?

How much should it cost on my 2002 Toyota Camry LE (4 cylinder/2.4L) to get the front and back brakes and front rotors changed? Midas said around $750, my mechanic expects around $700, a friend at work said he could do it for $400... Not sure what to do...How much should it cost on a 2002 Toyota Camry LE (4c/2.4L) to get both sets of brakes %26amp; front rotors changed?
At Autozone the pads run from $20-$55. Rear shoes=$17. Front rotors=$27-$58. The ranges are based on warranties. Change them yourself.

You'll need a jack and a socket set and either a c-clamp, or a large pair of channel locks.

Remove the front wheels, remove the bolts holding the calipers to the steering knuckle and suspend them from the struts with a wire or hanger. Pull the lock springs out of the thru-pins and remove the pins. Turn the inner pad around and collapse the piston using the c-clamp or channel locks.. Remove the old rotor and install the new one. They are what is known as floating rotors, meaning nothing but the calipers and the lug nuts hold them on. Put the new pads on the calipers in the reverse process of removing the old ones and slide the calipers over the rotors. Put the wheels back on and run the lug nuts down. Lower the vehicle so the wheel just take a little weight and torque the lugnuts down. Use about 75 foot pounds of torque. The nuts shouldn't turn easily.

The rears take a little more doing. Jack up the rear end and remove the wheels. There might be two big philips screws holding the drums on. Remove them if so. Make sure the parking brake is off. If the drums do not come off easily, use a hammer to help. Just hit the flat outside part a few times. It is usually rust between the bottom of the lug stud and the drum.

There are two big return springs between the shoes and the upper stud. Remove those. Then remove the hold down clamp. Push down and turn a quarter turn either direction to line the key up with the hold. Remove the clamp spring and rod. Remove the parking brake expander. Remove the adjuster and spring from the bottom. Collapse the adjuster some. Remove the parking brake cable from the rearward shoe. Leave the other side assembled so you can use it for reference. I would recommend having the drums turned at this time. Now reassemble using the other side as a guide. Taking pictures will also help. How much should it cost on a 2002 Toyota Camry LE (4c/2.4L) to get both sets of brakes %26amp; front rotors changed?
First thing you should do, is call a local parts store and ask them for prices on each part *brake pads/shoes *rotors *calipers if you are changing them etc. and once you have a price on the parts then you should find out what the labor rates at different garages are and see where you can get the best deal. Alot of garages will try to make you spend more then you have to, so make sure to find an honest garage or get your friend to do it (as long as this friend has a fair amount of experieince) because you dont want your brakes failing.

How to control the fluctuation of energy in wind turbine?

Due to the change in the wind speed, the speed of the wind turbine rotor changes, so at the output we get variable AC supply which means we do not get exactly constant voltage and frequency.

It can be control by controlling shaft speed and at the output by varying the load (Resistance).

I need to submit a case study about that so tell me about any site or e-book where I can find comprehensive details about that. How to control the fluctuation of energy in wind turbine?

You need to go to your neighborhood parts store and buy a shop manual for that truck. Probably about $20. It will give you step by step instructions with illustrations. Plus the next time you have a question about your truck you can just open a book.

Approximately how many miles does a average brake change occur. How about for rotors?

My brakes and rotors have never been changed before. it is a 1996 car and past 150,000 miles.

It is not making any noises yet and it does stop pretty good. But I was thinking, to be safe I should change them since its old. what do you think?Approximately how many miles does a average brake change occur. How about for rotors?
There is no average.Think about this-your brakes only wear when you foot is on the brake pedal (a fact). If you do a lot of stop %26amp; go (I've seen mail carriers wear out new brakes in 6,000 miles) your brakes won't last real long.If all you did was highway driving %26amp; never used your brakes-you could drive 1,000,000 miles %26amp; they'd look brand new (again if never had to use them).Obvisouly you have to stop sometimes to pee %26amp; get more gas-but if you didn't have to stop-THEY'D BE BRAND NEW%26gt;Approximately how many miles does a average brake change occur. How about for rotors?
That's not possible.Approximately how many miles does a average brake change occur. How about for rotors?
there is no exact science to say like 30K miles till a brake change is needed, you keep driving untill it starts squeeking if it squeeks alot its time for a change. If your rotors look uneven they need a change, new rotors dont show any ware on the outside lip but weavaly work rotors will have uneven wear and a charechreristic lip where the pad dosent touch the rotor. if you run your index finger over a disk and it feels uneven first check wether you can have them %26quot;cut%26quot; grinded down at a auto supy store or replace them for best stopping power. if you need new ones get slotted rotors i have them and it has increased my stopping power!, dont get cross drilled as they weaken the disks unlike the sloted style used in aston martins.

Break changes are easy and safe to do at home all you need is a few sockets sizes depend on your car, a carjack, C-clamp, brake parts cleaner, and th enew pads. save yourself the money there is no way to mess up as long as you put everything together the way it was before you took it apart.Approximately how many miles does a average brake change occur. How about for rotors?
That is hard to believe, most vehicle need new brakes at the very least every two years depending on how much they are used. Most Brake pads have a metal tab when the pad wears to thin it will start crapping the rotor. It will make a medal to medal sound.like nails on a chalk board. If there are grooves or ridges and the rotor is not smooth, you will need to replace the brake pads and the rotors. You should also look at your brake fluid level.Regardless

well when you take the caliper off to change the pads? just grab the rotor and pull it off but when you buy new ones make sure you clean the rotor surface with brake cleaner before putting them on. they put stuff on them to keep them from rusting when shipping them.after you clean them good, slide it on the hub, put the caliper back on with new pads and tighten the caliper bolts. they are easy to do.

How to change rear brakes\rotors on 2002 chevy trailblazer?

Well I changed the front with no problems and it has helped allot. But I still hear allot of squealing from the rear and even sounds like a pad or something is dragging. I took a quick look without taking the wheel off and it looks really similar to the front. Being a 4wd would this be the case? Anything special? I will see if the auto place has a manual on this vehicle, but I do not think so as I looked online and it stops at 2000.

Thanks againHow to change rear brakes\rotors on 2002 chevy trailblazer?
The trailblazer is straight forward. It's the identical method like the front, with the exception that it used the inside hub of the rotor as the drum for the parking brake. Take off the 2 caliper bolts and slide the caliper off the rotor. Grab the rotor and slide it off. There is no bridge to remove. The caliper piston is reset by compressing it, like the fronts. If you are going to replace the pads, it would be a good idea to replace the park brake shoes and hold down hardware as well.

I have a 1989 v6 2.8 fuel inj that shuts down everytime it reaches normal temp and change gears. It wont start after that until later. Ive changed rotor, pick up coil, dist cap, sparkplugs, wires, fuel pump, fuel filter. People tell me its the camshaftsensor, map sensor, crankshaft position sensor but my car doesnt have any of these. The only i havent bought new is fuel pump relay. Ive ran out of ideas on how to fix the car. Pls pls can anyone tell what is wrong with my car. ThanksCan anyone tell me what is wrong withh my car pls?
A common problem with these is the pickup coil that fires the fuel injectors. Try squirting a small amount of fuel into the intake and see if it starts. Could even be an overheating fuel pump. Can anyone tell me what is wrong withh my car pls?
your vehicle should have an ignition module....these can cause problems when old age and heat takes it's toll .....Can anyone tell me what is wrong withh my car pls?
Its something that is heating up it sounds like. This must be a Chevy 2.8L, I had a 85 S10 with the 2.8 and 5 speed. It was carbed though.

Try this test, after you get it to temp and it shuts off and wont start on you. Pull a spark plug and attach it back to plug wire, lay the spark plug thread onto a piece of metal on vechicle where you can see it. Have someone try to start truck and see if you can eye any spark across it. If no spark, it may be the computer or coil. Something on the ignition circuit.

How much can I sell my car for that does not start?

I have a 1996 Honda Civic Dx Hatchba ck Midori Green! Its a rare car, honda only made it that color, for that model and that year. Everywhere I go people are always admiring the car and color and asking to buy. I wanted to sell it to get something newer and larger, but then it stopped working. The alternator went and ever since I got it changed the car would not start. I just want it off my hands. The body is in good condition, NO RUST watsoever, lovely car, 156K, comes with 5 rims, circuit city radio, just changed rotors, brakes, alternator and had the front axle done. How much do you think I can get for this car? I'm asking 2,000 for it, is that not a possibility? The blue book value is 3,080. I'm sure theres people who would fix this car up and race it (those hatchback honda lovers) or simply strip for parts for the same car (since its hard to find in that color).

Any suggestions would be helpful! Thank You!How much can I sell my car for that does not start?

you may wish to fix this car before you sell it . 2k sounds like a decent price but people dont want to gamble with a car purchase,if they could hear it run and possibly drive it they are more likely to buy it.try to get it fixed and add that to the selling price.

Whew, you're askin alot aren't you!

Spark plugs http://www.ngk.com that's where to get em (or at least get the specs on the ones you need) I don't know if you have the v-6 or the i-4 the v-6 is a pain in the but to change plugs. But in order to do it, just change one at a time so you don't mix up your wires, you will need a deep 5/8%26quot; spark plug socket and an assortment of extensions if you are doing a v-6. As for plug wires, only change one at a time.

Rotor and Cap, again, change the wires from the old cap to the new one, one at a time, just make sure you put them in the proper holes on the new cap. As for the rotor, you may have to undo a screw to remove it from the shaft, just make sure the new one points the same way your old one did once it's reinstalled.

Changing the battery should be self explanitory, just use a wire brush, or special tool that can be had for a couple of dollars at parts store, for leaning the terminals, and posts. remove old battery, install new.

Changing oil: you may have to remove a skid plate to gain access to the oil filter, and may have to use a big set of pliers to remove the lod filter...

Better yet, you can save yourelf alot of hassle, by just going to an oil change facility, such as jiffy lube.

Trans fluid can be done at a jiffy lube also, in some cases, or any mechanic can do all these things.

Air filter, just open the intake box (a box with a large hose on it going to the throttle body) should be either clipped or screwed closed, just open it up and remove and install then seal the box back up.

Exhaust work, Take it to an Exhaust shop unless you have a torch and welder in your garage, that you know how to use.

Don't forget to replace your fuel filter also.

Sounds also like you may need new catalytic converters, your exhaust shop should be able to tell you if you do.

And when you get an outrageous price, go somewhere else for a different opinion.

Don't forget to have your accessorie drive belts looked at and possible your timing belt. If you don't know when the last time your timing belt was replaced, then you should have it done soon! How do u do a basic tune up on your truck?
Invest in a handbook for your car, they can save you so much money in the long run. All this stuff is easy to do, you could do it in an afternoon. However, i'd say parts alone will run $200+ for everything but the exhaust. Exhaust you can definetly replace yourself. How do u do a basic tune up on your truck?
it sounds more like you need either an EGR valve or that you have a leak in a vacuum hose. vacuum hose fixes are cheap. EGR valves are just a bit more than a tuneup cost.
